Flat (and slightly punctured) Stanley

Continuing on our Halloween theme...last year we had a visit from Flat Stanley (click on the name if you're not familiar with his story).

He picked a great time to visit, as we toured The Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany, and London. One of our stops was the Bouillion castle in Belgium.

At the castle, Stanley found himself in a precarious position on one of the torture devices in the dungeon.

Even though Stanley survived the ordeal, in the end we decided that this pic should not be included in the report back to the elementary school students.

Hello there! What was this device meant for? Were you supposed to survive sleeping on it for a couple of hours, place you hand in between, or scratch your back??

Lezard, I believe victims were laid on top of this rack or across the top, thus receiving a painful puncture session.

If you speak french, the castle site has a funny interactive page that has a brief description of what you can find in the dungeon at http://www.bouillon-sedan.org/catalogue/visite-bouillon.php.

Not nice if you are the victim.

Very cool. But Dick is right, not if you're the victim. However, when I was a kid, I loved to see stuff like this and so do many other kids.

Painful puncture session--that just might be an understatement! Thanks for telling me where to look for your Flat Stanley--I believe I too would have not sent this photo off to the school.
