Terrific Tiles



Many of the buildings in the Netherlands have fantastic tiled outdoor entrances. In particular we like the ones with art deco & art nouveau influences. This is from a building in The Hague.

Ridderzaal




The Ridderzaal (Knights Hall or Great Hall) dates from the 13th century. It stands in The Hague in the Binnenhof (where the dutch parliament sits). This is where the Queen delivers her annual speech to parliament. Most evenings this square is a quiet place in the city.

The Binnenhof


The Binnenhof in The Hague is the home of the Dutch government (even though the capitol is officially Amsterdam). The view from the pond is nice and you can also see some of The Hague's more modern buildings in the background.

Samen (Together)


These flags along the Binnenhof in The Hague celebrate the Netherland's participation in the Treaty of Rome, a precursor to today's European Union. The flags read "Samen sinds 1957," or "Together since 1957."
